FOR MOVIE BUFFS. name to an old black and white movie where wife is being held inside the house by her husband?
husband thinks wife is sick so he keeps her locked away in there home. from what i remember it is set in victorian times. movie was in black and white. and there is this one scene where they are supposed go to this party but at the last minute the husband changes his mind and tells her there not going and the wife is so upset. i think greer garson was the star in the movie but i cant be sure.
I've seen just about every Greer Garson film and I can't recall a plot like the one mentioned. "That Forsyte Woman" (1949) is set in the Victorian era and there are parties and functions in the film, but I don't recall her being ill in any way. Errol Flynn was also in the film
Could be "Gaslight" (1944) with Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer. In that picture he makes her believe that she is having a mental breakdown. I don't recall a missed party in that one either. But, he very easily could have lied and told her of a party only to disturb her even more.
There is another Ingrid Bergman film called "Notorious" (1946) with Cary Grant and Claude Rains. She married Rains' character to gain access to his home and the secrets hidden there. The husband has a party in his home in the film. She knows too much and is poisoned and kept inside her home.
